1. Hermès "Birkin". The Birkin is the most famous handbag from the french maison Hermès. This handbag was created in 1984 as a homage to the famous actress and singer Jane Birkin. It comes in 4 different sizes: 25, 30, 35 and 40 centimeters, plus the 50 and 55 ones which are designed for traveling. The Birkin comes in many different colours such as white, black, navy blue, orange, baby blue, yellow, and many others. Moreover, you can choose from a variety of different skins such as ostrich, calf leather, lizard and crocodile. The metallic hardware, such as the keys, the lock and the buckle are gold plated or palladium plated, and the lock can be covered in leather or in diamonds as a custom option. The Birkin price starts at around $8000.

2. Louis Vuitton "Speedy". This bag is definitely one of the most iconic handbags ever. The Speedy was one of Audrey Hepburn's favourite bags, and there surely are reasons for this preference. In fact, the Speedy comes in 4 different sizes: 25, 30 35 and 40, even though the "30" is the most common as it is not too big nor too small. Moreover, it is available in a huge variety of different styles and colours, such as Monogram Canvas, Damier Canvas, Damier Azur Canvas, Monogram Idylle Canvas, Monogram Multicolor Canvas and Epi Leather. The "Speedy" costs around $600.

3. Chanel "2.55". This iconic handbag takes its name from the date of its creation: February 1955. Coco Chanel designed this handbag with a shoulder strap in order to free its owners hands, making it more practical to use. It features an inner zippered pocket in the front flap, where Coco Chanel used to hide the love letters from the lover. Moreover, the easily recognizable shoulder strap is taken from the chains that the caretakers used to wrap around their waists to hold the keys (Ms. Chanel grew up in a convent). In addition, the front lock used to be different from the usual classic flap ("CC") lock that appears on the newer versions. In the backside there is an additional pocket, that is said to be the one where Coco Chanel used to keep extra money. The 2.55 is priced at around $1500.

4. Fendi "Baguette". This small handbag was released in 1990, and its name comes from the French baguette, because of its slim shape. The Baguette was expressely designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi so that it would be possible to carry it under the arm, just like frenchmen carry their baguette bread. It features an adjustable shoulder strap and the lock is made of Fendi's classic symbol. The Baguette is available in several different editions in many different colours, and its price varies from $500 up to $2000.

5. Dior "Saddle". This famous handbag, created by John Galliano, is clearly a western inspired item. It is called Saddle because of the clear resemblance to a real horse saddle. One of the most distinctive traits of this gorgeous handbag is definitely the big "D" dangling from one of the sides of the bag, just like a stirrup. There are many variations of the Saddle, but even though it is available in many colours, it is usually made of the same high quality leather or canvas. The prince range for the Saddle varies from $1000 up to $1600.
